I suggest you ...

apply my donations based on the content i'm reading

wouldn't it be cool if my donations went to homeless kids when I was reading an article about homeless kids? that'd make me feel like I was spending my time well and that I was an active member of the community.

Overall, I think you're making an excellent point. I have some concern over the details of how the system decides which organization to donate to on your behalf. Supporting the wrong point of view is pretty terrible.

How can we prevent that or protect against it? Users must be confident that we're always on their side.

For example, does someone reading about Dr. Tiller's death support or oppose abortion?

Similarly, someone reading about homeless kids might be critical of particular organizations and their methods and financial allocations.

To sort this out, users could fill out a survey before hand, or pre-select a variety of recipients that would be candidates for content-based donations.

Alternatively, users could use toolbar icons or even pop-ups when navigating away from a page, to select or verify recipients.

        Other ideas?
